Bodega Skateboards in Long Island

Last weekend I had the privlage of tagging along with Mr. Justin Keena on his venture to Long Island to shoot an ad for Bodega Skateboards. Day one consisted of shredding an abandoned pool in an old country club, followed by a short legde session.

Put up in a hotel, we made the most of it.

Elite, obviously.

Day two we hit the famous banks in Queens, hit the pool again, hung with Guy Mariano, Mike Carol & some other big names and finished the night at some bank in Hicksville.

Short edit of the footage I captured coming soon. Eyes peeled.

Networking

This beast we call the Entertainment World overwhelms most that try to tighten is reigns and control it. It is best to just sit down, enjoy the ride and get to know the people around you.

Last night I went to yet another Chorus Gallery show opening showcasing the work of a great artist called SKRIPT. Events like this allow me (and everyone else) the opportunity to meet with other creative individuals and talk about what it is that you love to do. I was told once by one Ms. Kimberly Harris that this industry is all about business cards. If you don’t have a business card you had might as well not go out and meet these people with any intention of working with them. Harsh words for a harsh world.

Cards

It’s nice meeting people who are running the same hustle as you. You connect on a more personal level than if they were just another Joe Shmoe on the street. They know that you are working your ass off to make a living for yourself making art and tend to want to help the cause – which in turn you reciprocate. I have had the pleasure of meeting some pretty amazing people last night who I plan to work with in the near future – Fibrevolution, Alex Carlson, SKRIPT, Gabe Herman & Margaret Singer.

Network, people. Network!

The Bynars – “Party All Nite”

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with a very talented band called The Bynars. Hailing from Boston, MA The Bynars are a mix of sounds comparable to Weezer, The Cars and The Knack. My early introduction to this band stemmed from a great love for lead singer Matt Jatkola’s solo project under the simple name “Matt J.” If you haven’t heard him already, I highly suggest coming across his album “Disgusting Kissez.” Other band members Ben Mettey, Kiel Szivos and Mike Champ came together and really pulled out a great video. Their music really inspired me to create something fun with a bit of a story. With their new album “Party All Nite” dropping last night, the world is sure to get more of The Bynars in the near future.

I really want to take a second of this blog to thank Ian Sutton of Icarus Frames – our clown –  for being such an amazing actor. Even though he had so much work to do building his beautiful bikes, he took time out to take orders from me all day. He quoted me multiple times saying “Stand there!” “Walk that way!” “Is that where you are going to be?” “Don’t move!” and throughout the entire process he never got Hollywood on me. His patience and willingness to help out was very admirable and I really can’t thank him enough. Do me a favor and buy one of his frames, okay?

This was a great experience for me being that it was my first major music video doing everything from the conception to editing the final piece. It also gave me the opportunity to use my new camera for the first time! Shot on the Canon 5D Mark II with a Sigma 70-200/2.8 and a Canon 17-40/4.0, it really made for some nice images – very happy with it. I have some more music videos on the horizon and I am really excited to work more and more with bands to help represent their music!

Check out the WORKS page for the full video (among a few others)!

Cheers!
